    We thank our colleagues from the U3E staff (INRA, Rennes) for their help during field sessions and rearing experiments: G. Bertrand, A. Cheyrousse, A. Gallard, N. Jeannot, B. Joseph, C. Lacoste, F. Marchand, A. Quemeneur, C. Saget and J. Tremblay. We are also really grateful to D. Huteau for his help during capture and rearing. We also acknowledge A. Baisez, D. Balestin, A. Bardonnet, D. Barracou, E. Bussy, R. Delanoe, P. Etchecopar, P. Gaudin, Y. Guilloux, M. Hoffman, F. Lange, C. Lousto, Y. Moulia, P. Martin, Y. Moello, E. Prevost, J. Rancon, G. Surzur and V. Vauclin who were involved in the capture of Atlantic salmon or supplied environmental data on the study sites. We are also grateful to Juha Merila and an anonymous referee for extremely useful comments on previous drafts of the manuscript. SLC was supported by a grant from Plan Loire Grandeur Nature (project no 34108) to GE.; In the context of global changes, the long-term viability of populations of endangered ectotherms may depend on their adaptive potential and ability to cope with temperature variations. We measured responses of Atlantic salmon embryos from four populations to temperature variations and used a Q(ST)-F-ST approach to study the adaptive divergence among these populations. Embryos were reared under two experimental conditions: a low temperature regime at 4 degrees C until eyed-stage and 10 degrees C until the end of embryonic development and a high temperature regime with a constant temperature of 10 degrees C throughout embryonic development. Significant variations among populations and populationxtemperature interactions were observed for embryo survival, incubation time and length. Q(ST) was higher than F-ST in all but one comparison suggesting an important effect of divergent selection. Q(ST) was also higher under the high-temperature treatment than at low temperature for length and survival due to a higher variance among populations under the stressful warmer treatment. Interestingly, heritability was lower for survival under high temperature in relation to a lower additive genetic variance under that treatment. Overall, these results reveal an adaptive divergence in thermal plasticity in embryonic life stages of Atlantic salmon suggesting that salmon populations may differentially respond to temperature variations induced by climate change. These results also suggest that changes in temperature may alter not only the adaptive potential of natural populations but also the selection regimes among them.

We present low temperature electronic transport measurements in silicon-on-insulator nano-MOSFETs. Their electrical properties depend in particular on the junctions between the reservoirs and the transistor channel, determined during fabrication by the spacers deposited on both sides of the gate. The behaviour differences are emphasized at low temperature. In ultra-scaled transistors, with a typical gate length of 30 nm, dopants diffusion during activation annealing can result in a single dopant well coupled to the reservoirs located in the middle of the channel, below the gate. It is revealed at low temperature below the transistor threshold by resonant tunnelling through its energy levels. An estimation of its ionization energy gives an enhanced value as compared to the bulk value, attributed to the dielectric confinement of the donor. On the contrary, electrons can be confined in the transistor channel by high enough access resistances. Thus samples turn at low temperature into single electron transistors, with the island located below the gate. It is extended to coupled dots systems, by depositing several gates between source and drain. Their behaviour depends on the distance between gates and on spacers length. These systems are used to transfer a single electron.

    National audience; An exponential growth of the mobile data traffic is expected in future networks. The reason of this growth is related to the increasing popularity of linear services such as mobile TV, live and sports events, which may lead to the delivery of the same contents to a large audience. With this mobile data traffic explosion, the power demand of future wireless networks is predicted to dramatically increase. This energy consumption issue, if unaddressed, may lead to the restriction of many new services. Based on these facts, recent studies have shown that network cooperation is a promising candidate to deal with such issues. This paper investigates, from an energy efficiency point of view, the performances of using a hybrid unicast/broadcast network to deliver linear services to mobile and portable devices. Results show that cooperation will decrease the total power consumption of the hybrid network.

    International audience; Thermal bridges are weak areas of the building envelope in which they can significantly increase the energy load of houses. In this study, we tackle the thermal bridges resulting from windows offset from exterior walls. First, we present an innovative insulating coating which can be used to limit thermal bridge effects. Second, we compute the cooling/heating load coming from the windows offset thermal bridges of a typical French house before and after adding the insulating coating. Third, we compare the time lag and decrement factor when the 2D heat transfer effects of the thermal bridge are taken into consideration. The methodology is to incorporate 2D heat transfer into a whole building energy simulation program. This is done through co-simulation between a 2D heat transfer model developed in MATLAB and the building energy simulation software EnergyPlus using the software BCVTB. This latter enables us to link the two programs and allow them to exchange data at each simulation time step. Results showed that the windows offset thermal bridges energy load percentage of the total house load constitutes around 2-8% depending whether exterior walls have interior insulation or not. Applying 1 cm and 2 cm of the coating on these thermal bridges reduces the windows offset energy load by about 24-50%. Concerning time lag and decrement factor, we obtain high values for decrement factor and low values for the time lag for wall positions near the thermal bridge. Applying the coating decreases, significantly, the decrement factor and increases the time lag.

    The control of a new structure of twin wind turbines (TWT) is presented in this paper. This new concept includes two identical wind turbines ridden on the same tower, which can pivot face the wind with no additional actuator. The motion of the arms carrying the TWT is free. The control law based on sliding mode controller is designed to track the maximum power, by controlling the rotor speed of the TWT and the yaw rotation but without yaw actuator. Finally, performances of the proposed control strategy are compared to standard proportional integral controller, for several scenarios (time varying direction or magnitude of the wind, error on the inertia of the system, …). International audience; In this work we propose and compare the two models for crack propagation in dynamics. Both models are based on embedded strong discontinuities for localized cohesive type crack description and both provide the advantage to not to require tracking algorithms. The first one is based on discrete lattice approach, where the domain is discretized with Voronoi cells held together prior to crack occurrence by cohesive links represented in terms of Timoshenko beams. The second one is based on constant strain triangular solid element. In both models, propagation of cracks activates enhancements in the displacement field leading to embedded strong discontinuities. The latter remain localized inside the element, regulated by the localized traction separation behavior defined through exponential softening law. Thus, the both models provide the result that remain mesh-independent, with fracture energy as the model parameter. We show that implementation in dynamics framework can be obtained by adding inertial effects without modifying the existing quasi-statics models. In order to provide reliable results, classical implicit Newmark algorithm can be used for time integration. The two presented models are subjected to dynamic crack propagation benchmarks, where detailed analysis on strain, kinetic, plastic free and dissipated energy during simulation is verified by comparison to the amount of total work which is introduced into the system. The main strength of the proposed approach is that cracks initiation, propagation, their coalescence, merging and branching are automatically obtained without any tracking algorithms. In addition, since the discontinuities remain localized inside elements, accurate results can be obtained even with coarser grids, leading to efficient methodology capable of capturing complex crack patterns in dynamics.

    International audience; After a period during which MPAs were instrumentalised as a palliative against the inadequacy of a fisheries management conventional approach, the multi-use character of these areas prevailed, conflicts were pacified by instilling a participative process and a plurality of goals is now fully recognised. Thus MPAs are becoming both a tool and a preferred context for sustainable development in its ecological, economic and social dimensions and applied through a participatory approach that entitles local communities to both create and manage this type of area. This article will discuss the full range of these changes and how MPAs' goals have evolved with time, from a priority granted to conservation to the recognition of a plurality of goals. This article will then examine to what extent the results obtained by MPAs working toward each one of these goals make them valuable examples of areas where the requirements of sustainable development are met.

    International audience; Farmers have been increasingly called upon to respond to an ongoing redefinition in consumers' demands, having as a converging theme the search for sustainable production practices. In order to satisfy this objective, instruments for the environmental management of agricultural activities have been sought out. Environmental impact assessment methods are appropriate tools to address the choice of technologies and management practices to minimize negative effects of agricultural development, while maximizing productive efficiency, sound usage of natural resources, conservation of ecological assets and equitable access to wealth generation means. The 'system for weighted environmental impact assessment of rural activities' (APOIA-NovoRural) presented in this paper is organized to provide integrated farm sustainability assessment according to quantitative environmental standards and defined socio-economic benchmarks. The system integrates sixty-two objective indicators in five sustainability dimensions (i) Landscape ecology, (ii) Environmental quality (atmosphere, water and soil), (iii) Sociocultural values, (iv) Economic values, and (v) Management and administration. Impact indices are expressed in three integration levels: (i) specific indicators, that offer a diagnostic and managerial tool for farmers and rural administrators, by pointing out particular attributes of the rural activities that may be failing to comply with defined environmental performance objectives; (ii) integrated sustainability dimensions, that show decision-makers the major contributions of the rural activities toward local sustainable development, facilitating the definition of control actions and promotion measures; and (iii) aggregated sustainability index, that can be considered a yardstick for eco-certification purposes. Nine fully documented case studies carried out with the APOIA-NovoRural system, focusing on different scales, diverse rural activities/farming systems, and contrasting spatial/territorial contexts, attest to the malleability of the method and its applicability as an integrated farm environmental management tool.

    International audience; We report a dielectric relaxation in BaTiO3-based ferroelectric thin films of different composition and with several growth modes: sputtering (with and without magnetron) and sol-gel. The relaxation was observed at cryogenic temperatures (T < 100 K) for frequencies from 100 Hz up to 10 MHz. This relaxation activation energy is always lower than 200 meV and is very similar to the relaxation that we reported in the parent bulk perovskites. Based on our Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) investigation, we ascribe this dielectric relaxation to the hopping of electrons among Ti3+-V(O) charged defects. Being dependent on the growth process and on the amount of oxygen vacancies, this relaxation can be a useful probe of defects in actual integrated capacitors with no need for specific shaping.

    Ozawa (FWO), and modified Coats-Redfern iso-conversional methods were applied to model the decomposition reaction and the activation energy of the nanocomposite powder coatings. Overall, the presence of nano-clay increased the activation energy of the PU degradation up to 45 kJ/mol, when compared to the blank PU, which suggests very high thermal stability of nanocomposites. The Sestak-Berggren approach proposed a good approximation for the reaction model, especially at low temperatures. Thus, PU decomposition was detected as an autocatalytic reaction, which was suppressed by the barrier effect of OMMT nano-palates intercalated with polymer chains. In the present study, thermal degradation kinetics of polyurethane (PU) powder coatings reinforced with organo-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) was investigated. PU nanocomposites were prepared in different concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 wt.% of OMMT via the extrusion method. The microstructure of the nanocomposites was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) illustrating uniform dispersion of OMMT nano-clay platelets in the PU matrix except for the sample containing 5 wt.% nano-palates. Thermal degradation kinetics of the PU nanocomposite was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at different heating rates of 5, 10, and 20 ° C/min. The results showed that the initial decomposition temperatures were shifted toward higher values (more than 40 ° C for T10%) by introducing the nano-clay to the PU matrix.

    Authors: Pierre, Mathieu;

    Cette thèse présente une étude du transport électronique à basse température dans des transistors à effet de champ nanométriques en silicium sur isolant. Leur comportement électrique dépend notamment de la constitution des jonctions entre les réservoirs et le canal, qui est déterminée lors de la fabrication par l'utilisation d'espaceurs de part et d'autre de la grille. Cette différence de comportement est exacerbée à basse température. Dans des transistors très courts, de longueur de grille typique égale à 30 nm, compte tenu de la diffusion des dopants lors du recuit d'activation, il est possible d'obtenir sous la grille un unique donneur bien couplé aux deux réservoirs. Sa présence est révélée par de l'effet tunnel résonant à travers les niveaux d'énergie associés à ses orbitales, observé à basse température à des tensions de grille inférieures au seuil du transistor. L'estimation de l'énergie d'ionisation de ce donneur donne une valeur supérieure à la valeur attendue pour un donneur dans du silicium massif, ce qui est attribué à l'effet du confinement diélectrique du donneur. À l'inverse, il est possible de définir des résistances d'accès au canal suffisantes pour y confiner les électrons. Un transistor se comporte alors comme un transistor mono-électronique à basse température, dont l'îlot est situé sous la grille. Ce moyen de créer un transistor mono-électronique est étendu à des systèmes d'îlots couplés, en déposant plusieurs grilles entre la source et le drain. Plusieurs comportements sont obtenus selon l'écart entre les grilles et la longueur des espaceurs. Ces systèmes sont utilisés pour réaliser le transfert d'un électron unique.
